Santa's Beard, Volunteers and other hooks for December

From gifts and garlands to food and festive tipples, 'tis certainly the season where there's always a story to tell.

If you're a maker or creative with wares to sell, don't forget to tell your audience when the last day is for orders to arrive in time before the big day.

This is a great time for you to take your audience behind the scenes with your preparations for the festivities. Why not share your ideas for great gifts or recipes? You could showcase your favourite makers, creators, purchases and wish list items.

You could also use the month to get ahead of the game with your content planning ready for 2022 (more ideas on this coming soon).

2 December - International Day for the Abolition of Slavery

When we worked with Freedom Festival this was an important day in their calendar.

You could share what you do to prevent modern slavery in your business or share messages about the topic to raise awareness with your audience.

On days like this, even if you don't feel you have anything specific to say, sharing articles and points of view you agree with demonstrates your values.

Think about other important days throughout the year which align with your values and beliefs and get them added to your 2022 content plan.

4 & 5 December - Tree Dressing

Trees have long been celebrated for their spiritual significance. Tree dressing in the first week of December is based on many customs and traditions from all over the world so why not use this week to share your own traditions?

What's your tree dressing (or other) tradition at this time of year? When do you decorate? Do you have any ornaments that hold a story? Maybe you've had them since childhood and hold special significance. Do you buy a new one each year?

Remember, have some fun with your content.

5 December - Soil Awareness Day

December is a big month for garden centres as we flock to get trees, lights and take a visit to Santa's grotto.

It's also Soil Awareness Day, who knew?

Have you planted a tree this year? Made a donation to the Woodland Trust? Maybe you've just grounded yourself and let your bare feet feel the ground (and soil) beneath your toes. Share how it made you feel or why getting out in nature is so good for whatever is you do / offer / create.

5 December - Volunteer Day

Another day we were used to celebrating from our work with Freedom Festival and Hull 2017 UK City of Culture.

Do you volunteer? Tell your audience about the work you do and why. Take them behind the scenes or share a story about why this work is important to you or your business.

Maybe use the day to sign up with an organisation to start your volunteering story in the New Year.

10 December - Christmas Jumper Day

It's our staple wear in December so you bet we'll be sharing a picture of our Christmas jumpers. We both got a great one the other year that says Rolling with my snomies. Perfectly on brand we reckon.

Share pictures of your team, your dog or the fantastic local business where you got your jumper from. Maybe have have something else festive you like to wear instead?

Remember, have some fun with it.

18 December - International Migrants Day

Our business is founded on the values of Freedom, Light, Respect, Adventure, Curiosity and Home, which is why we decided to support the Choose Love in 2021.

We'll be making a donation to this wonderful cause for every sign up to our newsletter this year (so go get signed up!).

Do you support any charities which help the cause?

Christmas Eve

Before you dive deep into the festivities, don't forget to thank your clients or your audience for their support this year.

Maybe you could offer them a special gift, just for them. After all, we all love to feel appreciated.

We've got something special we're sending out to our story insiders, so make sure you're on the list.

We know first hand how life is a big old juggle and we're here for the ride with you. Running a business (and a family) is hard work but we believe writing about it doesn't need to be. We're here to show you how. We're also here for the thrifty finds, adventure and cocktails.

Gabrielle Bernstein

I discovered Gabrielle Bernstein last summer, inhaling her book The Universe has got your back while on holiday in France. Since then I've literally read her entire repertoire. I can't get enough of her positivity and make picking an affirmation card the first task of my day.

Marie Forleo

I discovered Marie Forleo at the end of 2019 and devoured her book Everything is Figureoutable in a day. I love her New Jersey no nonsense approach to problem solving and how she's all about the fun. Because we all need more of that.

Mountains

Mountains, I love 'em. I love looking at them, hiking them and the endless possibilities they hold. Our favourite place to explore in the UK is the Lake District, whenever we have a spare weekend or day, we throw the tent in the car and head to the hills.
