How one word can make all the difference.

What story are you telling yourself about the past year?

The year you were safe at home or the year you were stuck at home? The year of home adventures or the year of no adventures?  It’s amazing how one word can change the meaning of a sentence and the feelings it evokes.

It's been 12 months since we embarked on this strange but surprising year. A year when….

  • Discovering far flung places became discovering those on our doorstep
  • We launched a website with a few friends to share our insider guides to the place we call home.
  • Event launches became cancellation press releases
  • City festivals became virtual festivals
  • We learnt how to run a business via WhatsApp
  • We became Year 6, Year 3 and Year 1 teachers.
  • We hung out with friends on Zoom dates and reluctantly took part in quizzes.
  • We swapped brunching for walking dates armed with a flask of mulled wine or alpine inspired hot toddy coffee.
  • We got dressed up to go to the supermarket (sometimes)
  • We spent most days in gym gear, loungewear and the same three outfits on repeat.

It’s been emotional. But a year we won’t forget.

As we look forward, we’re dreaming big. We’re making tentative social plans but not too many. We’re putting boundaries in place, appreciating the freedom and simplicity of life and those treats we’ve not had in a while.

A year on, we’re digging out our new sunglasses, ‘cos brighter days are around the corner.

Think about the story you’re telling yourself and telling others about the past year. What have you learned? What have you loved? How has the story shifted? Write it down.

Laura & Becca

Hello!

SFH Autumn (Socials + Websize)-72

We're Laura & Becca

PRs, copy coaches, mates, mamas and story obsessives. Between us we've got four kids, three dogs and two husbands. We know first hand how life is a big old juggle and we're here for the ride with you. Running a business (and a family) is hard work but we believe writing about it doesn't need to be. We're here to show you how. We're also here for the thrifty finds, adventure and cocktails.

Gabrielle Bernstein

I discovered Gabrielle Bernstein last summer, inhaling her book The Universe has got your back while on holiday in France. Since then I've literally read her entire repertoire. I can't get enough of her positivity and make picking an affirmation card the first task of my day.

Marie Forleo

I discovered Marie Forleo at the end of 2019 and devoured her book Everything is Figureoutable in a day. I love her New Jersey no nonsense approach to problem solving and how she's all about the fun. Because we all need more of that.

Mountains

Mountains, I love 'em. I love looking at them, hiking them and the endless possibilities they hold. Our favourite place to explore in the UK is the Lake District, whenever we have a spare weekend or day, we throw the tent in the car and head to the hills.
