How to get started writing? Trust your instinct

Leap and the net will appear.

It can feel scary writing about your business. We hear it all the time…

“I’m no good with words.”
“I’m not a writer.”
“I’m not a content creator.”

The truth is, if you run a business, you’ve got to get good with the words, regardless of whether you outsource certain things to a copywriter.
From customer emails and social media posts to brochure content and sales page updates, whether you do a little or a lot, you’ve got to be able to do something.

But it’s easy to stay in your comfort zone, stick with what you know or leave it to someone else and hope they capture the magic of your brand.

It doesn’t have to be that way and the truth is, you know your story better than anyone and more often than not, once you get into your rhythm, the words come more easily and your confidence grows, making the connection with your audience and customers all the more magical.

How to get started? Trust your instinct.

What do you feel needs to be said today? Write it down.
What do you really want your customers to feel when they buy your product or book your service? Write it down.
How does it make you feel when you help some solve their problem? Write it down.
What experience do you want to share with people? Write it down.

Overthinking (using our head) can be your own worst enemy when you’re trying to write copy that connects. It can feel sticky and forced when all you want is the words to flow.

When you step out of your comfort zone and trust your instinct, trust your gut, it’s when the words feel most effortless and real.

Trust yourself and the words you want to say.
Trust your instinct when you read them back, do they feel right?

Taking the leap out of your comfort zone puts you into your expansion zone. A space to grow, learn and connect. We’re here to guide you, you don’t have to do this alone.

Gabrielle Bernstein

I discovered Gabrielle Bernstein last summer, inhaling her book The Universe has got your back while on holiday in France. Since then I've literally read her entire repertoire. I can't get enough of her positivity and make picking an affirmation card the first task of my day.

Marie Forleo

I discovered Marie Forleo at the end of 2019 and devoured her book Everything is Figureoutable in a day. I love her New Jersey no nonsense approach to problem solving and how she's all about the fun. Because we all need more of that.

Mountains

Mountains, I love 'em. I love looking at them, hiking them and the endless possibilities they hold. Our favourite place to explore in the UK is the Lake District, whenever we have a spare weekend or day, we throw the tent in the car and head to the hills.
