The beauty of the blog

WhatsApp Image 2024-02-05 at 13.52.32

Ever wondered what's the most popular page on our website, second only to the homepage? Perhaps unsurprisingly (the title gives it away), it's the blog!

Whether you're already embracing the resurgence of blogs or have yet to consider adding one to your website, this post is going to show you why this juicy format of content creation packs a punch.

But we get it. In the constantly evolving landscape of online content, where should your energy be focused? Instagram posts, Reels, Stories, TikTok, YouTube, email lists, LinkedIn, Facebook, courses, programmes, a book, a podcast, a blog? Yikes! With so many options, a blog might seem like another somewhat lengthy demand on your precious time - just more words in the vast ocean of business ownership content creation.

Write it once, use it a hundred times

But here’s the thing. When you see a blog as more than just another piece of website content, it can become a powerful and time-saving copywriting tool for all the other content you’ve got on your to-create list.

Think of it like this. A blog post is a piece of long-form content that offers you the chance to thoroughly explore a topic, pouring your ideas and expertise onto the page without the constraint of a word count. When you give yourself space and you show up in the right frame of mind, this gets to be gorgeous time well spent.

This long-form writing approach helps to establish your authority in your chosen topic and provides genuine value to your audience, turning your blog into a go-to resource and, if you keep your momentum, has them coming back to your site time and time again.

The beauty of long-form blog posts goes beyond your blog

When you’ve got a high quality piece of long form copy, don’t just leave it sitting there, make it work hard for you by repurposing the same content for your marketing emails. Whether you’re creating engaging campaigns or simply consistently sharing insights with your email list, this content can be used to guide your audience back to your blog and onto your website.

But don’t stop there! There’s more magic to be had from the glorious blog.

With your email content ready to share, you can go even further and break down the content into bite-sized chunks of content gold. Yep, that one blog post becomes a goldmine for social media, extending the lifespan of your blog beyond your email and onto your one or many social media platforms and importantly, stops you scratching your head for what to post and gets your content aligned with your strategy.

The gift that keeps on giving

Writing long form content in the form of a blog and repurposing it across your emails and social media is a smart, sustainable and strategic move that will support your entire content ecosystem, offering benefits beyond the immediate impact on your blog.

With your long-form blog posts enhancing your SEO, driving traffic to your website and providing content for emails and social media, your blog will become a gift that keeps on giving.

So, if you're not blogging, haven't considered it or aren't a fan, it might be time to reconsider. Blog posts are making a well-deserved comeback, captivating audiences with long-form, high-quality content that can be repurposed across various channels.

Insights for effective copywriting and SEO

But why the resurgence? Blogs not only captivate your audience but also play a crucial role in optimising your website for search engines, getting you higher up the rankings.

Long-form blog posts allow you to thoroughly explore a topic. It gives you the chance to pour everything you have to share onto the page, providing in-depth insights and solutions, without the restriction of a word count.

This comprehensive approach not only establishes your authority in whatever you’re writing about, but also offers genuine value to your audience. You readers will appreciate the depth of information and in turn, head to your blog as a go-to resource for whatever you’re sharing.

The beauty of long-form blog posts is their versatility. You can use the same content and repurpose it for your marketing emails. Extract key ideas, break down bigger ideas into digestible snippets and create engaging email campaigns guiding your audience back to your blog. It's a seamless way to nurture your email subscribers with valuable content and bring them back to your website.

Blogs are a goldmine for social media content

When you break down long-form content into bite-sized pieces, it creates a goldmine for social media. You’re essentially reusing, repurposing and recycling the gorgeous content you’ve spent time creating and using it across all your channels.

Try taking each section, key point or quote you’ve shared in the blog and turn it into simple, engaging social media posts, directing followers back to your blog for the full story. Not only does this boost your social media presence, it also extends the lifespan of your blog content across multiple platforms. Think of it like the capsule wardrobe that means you’ve always got something to wear. Repeat, reuse, repurpose. Done!

A strategic move that supports your entire content ecosystem

Investing time and effort in crafting long-form blog posts isn't just about the immediate impact on your blog. Long-form copy becomes the gift that keeps on giving, for you, your content and your audience.

So if you’re not blogging, don’t have a blog or really have no interest in reading them, you might want to reconsider. As we’ve already covered, blog posts are experiencing a well-deserved resurgence.

And while we believe the focus should always be to generate engaging and relevant content, here’s how you can leverage the beauty of blogging to enhance your online presence, get in Google’s good books and master the art of copywriting for your business.

Relevance is key (it’s obvious, or is it?)

Align your blog content and topic with your audience's interests and needs. Sounds obvious, right? But it’s easy to forget. So remember to incorporate keywords that mirror what your audience is actively searching for, addressing the problems you can solve and the desires they seek. This strategic approach not only engages your readers but also boosts your search engine visibility. Win, win!

Craft premium content (make it juicy and unmissable)

It's not just about creating content, it's about crafting content that’s truly meaningful. Strive for high-quality, compelling topics, tips and insights that add genuine value to your audience. Google's algorithm prioritises results that provide the best user experience, so demonstrating value is super important for your words to achieve SEO success.

Unearth those keywords (get digging, they're in there somewhere)

Identify the relevant keywords that resonate with your audience's search queries - what are they regularly searching for? Use tools such as Google Keyword Planner to uncover popular keywords tailored to your business. Once you’ve found them, integrate these keywords into your content to enhance its discoverability.

Title tags that capture attention (oh, hey there)

With so much noise out there and millions of others vying for your audience’s attention, make your blog post titles extra juicy by incorporating one of your primary keywords. Captivating titles that not only entice clicks but also accurately represent the essence of your content are a powerful tool for both user engagement and SEO performance, so don’t ignore it.

Structural subheadings (organise your words like you dream of organising your refrigerator)

Make your content easier on the eye and enhance the structure of your content by using subheadings and header tags. Just like all those Instagram posts you’ve saved with images of colour coordinated bookshelves and pantry cupboards organised to within an inch of their life, get your words organised too. This not only improves readability but also guides search engines in understanding the framework and significance of your content. In short, a well-organised post is more likely to rank higher in search results.

Image optimisation (it's show and tell time)

Use your words to get your images working harder for you by including descriptive text alongside your images, strategically enriched with your keywords. In the realm of SEO for blogs, optimising visual content through image text is a powerful yet frequently neglected strategy. While beautiful visuals can enhance the overall appeal of your blog, they become even more impactful when accompanied by descriptive text strategically enriched with relevant keywords (although don’t look to our site for examples of this just yet, that’s a WIP for 2024).

Image text optimisation is a valuable yet often overlooked aspect of SEO for blogs. Done right, it can help search engines understand the context and relevance of your visual content - so get descriptive!

When it comes to size…

As of 2023, the optimal blog length for SEO is considered to be between 1,760 and 2,400 words. However, a minimum of 300 words is recommended.

And don’t forget to make it human

Remember, when you’re writing your blog, you're not just addressing your target audience, you're engaging with real people. So humanise your writing by making it sound like you. Add sprinkles of your personality, tell stories and relatable anecdotes that’ll help them get to know, like and trust you.

This not only makes your content more enjoyable to read but also helps to create a genuine connection with your audience. Whether you're sharing success stories, lessons learned, tips, tricks or behind-the-scenes insights of your world, weaving a human touch into your blog posts helps build trust and loyalty. Just don’t forget to add a little you into your words - it's the authenticity in your voice that resonates and sets you and your business apart.

Ready, set, go!

This might seem like a lot to take in but don’t let this cause a blog blockage. You have incredible things to share with the world. Whether you’re just starting out or you’ve been at this a while, pour your wisdom into your words and when you’re done, pop back and use this as a checklist.

Embark on your blogging journey armed with these insights and use them to unlock the full potential of your words with magically effective copywriting and supercharged SEO for your business.
