The surprising truths of 7 year old girls

Stories from Home Socials Cropped-206

Tess, my mini and the youngest of our brood turned 7 this week.

Sassy and stubborn but with the biggest smile you’ll see, this girl knows what she does (and doesn’t want) and isn’t afraid to do it her own way rather than following the crowd. A sense of fearlessness we’re both still learning from.

Kids are great teachers in the life lessons adulthood often makes us forget. Being brave, being bold and not fearing being wrong.

We say it’s about time we all embrace our inner child and be more Tess. Here’s how:

Be more YOU! Wear the tutu with the crop top, shake your hips with a hula hoop or go climb a tree and cartwheel all the way if you want. Whatever brings you joy, go do that.

Don’t be afraid to fall. Remember when you weren’t afraid of learning to roller skate or ride your bike? Remember falling down and getting back up to do it again? Whether you want to try something new for fun or launch something new as part of your business, put fear to one side, take the first step and if you fall down and pick yourself back up again (in a tutu if you wish).

Dance your own rhythm. If you feel more like having a strop, throw on some tunes and bust out those moves and shake it off. You KNOW it’ll make you feel better.

Say (or at least write) what’s on your mind. Forget what everyone else is saying or what you THINK you should be doing, grab a pen and get what you’re REALLY thinking and feeling down on paper. You don’t have to share it but getting it out is a great release.

Be silly and have fun. Life’s short and if you can’t have fun along the way, what’s the point? Better yet, when you’re the boss of your business, you get to have fun with that too! Show your realness in your words and tell those stories.

Hello!

SFH Autumn (Socials + Websize)-72

We're Laura & Becca

PRs, copy coaches, mates, mamas and story obsessives. Between us we've got four kids, three dogs and two husbands. We know first hand how life is a big old juggle and we're here for the ride with you. Running a business (and a family) is hard work but we believe writing about it doesn't need to be. We're here to show you how. We're also here for the thrifty finds, adventure and cocktails.

Gabrielle Bernstein

I discovered Gabrielle Bernstein last summer, inhaling her book The Universe has got your back while on holiday in France. Since then I've literally read her entire repertoire. I can't get enough of her positivity and make picking an affirmation card the first task of my day.

Marie Forleo

I discovered Marie Forleo at the end of 2019 and devoured her book Everything is Figureoutable in a day. I love her New Jersey no nonsense approach to problem solving and how she's all about the fun. Because we all need more of that.

Mountains

Mountains, I love 'em. I love looking at them, hiking them and the endless possibilities they hold. Our favourite place to explore in the UK is the Lake District, whenever we have a spare weekend or day, we throw the tent in the car and head to the hills.
