Twinning is winning but no one likes a copycat

SFH Autumn (Socials + Websize)-113It gets us every time.

When we both show up wearing the same outfit, the same colour or exchange identical gifts at Christmas, it always makes us smile. But the the fact is, while on many occasions twinning is winning, when it comes to your business, your words and your stories, no one likes a copycat.

And in reality, while we say we’re twinning with our outfits, we’re not really because even if we have the same dress, the way we wear it’s different. Because we’re unique and the way we approach our style is different too.

By embracing our differences we get to share a love for something and make it work for us. And it’s the same with business.

Think about it, how many people are out there helping small businesses with copywriting? How many people are offering coaching services or selling the brow gel you never knew you needed but is now a firm fixture in your makeup bag? There are loads of people doing the same thing, just different.

The truth is, there’s room for us all, including you.

While inspiration is all around and we’re subconsciously influenced by what we hear and see, the business you create, the offers you share with the world, the stories you tell and the words you use should be YOURS and yours alone.

Your uniqueness is what attracts people to you, not to everyone else.

They should be influenced by what you love, how you speak and what makes you YOU. Despite most things having been said before, no one’s said it quite like you so don't try to be the same as everyone else.

What makes you YOU?

Here are four tips to help you identify your uniqueness:

  • Embrace your quirks (c’mon, we’re all a little weird).
  • What do you love to do in your free time? If you get stuck on this one, think about what you used to love when you were younger.
  • Do you have a catchphrase? Think about the words or phrases you say all the time. How do you greet your best friends?
  • Did you have a nickname growing up? What’s the story behind it?

If you don’t use it, you’ll lose it.

As the incredible Elizabeth Gilbert explains in her book BIG MAGIC, if you don’t do something with an idea when it comes along, it’ll leave to find someone else who wants it.

Fear and uncertainty are common themes we see with women like you who want to be more creative, fulfilled and have the freedom to build a business that fits with the rest of their lives.

It’s what holds so many back from taking that all important first step.

Have you ever had an idea but you’ve doubted whether you could do anything with it and then just like that, it’s gone and before you know it, someone else is talking about the very idea you had?

Can you remember a time when you told someone your idea and they didn't give you the encouragement you were looking for? Did it make you doubt yourself or your idea?

Do you know what you want to do with your idea but can't quite figure out how to make it happen? Maybe you want to do it your way but you’re struggling to make it sound as good as all the rest?

If you have, you're not alone and believe us when we say we’ve been there, more than once.

We’re lucky because it’s a heck of a lot easier to give fear the heave ho when there’s two of you to kick its butt. When one of us gets overwhelmed or has a wobble, we have each other to lean on for a pep talk. We know the power of the kitchen table chat. It’s where some of the best conversations take place. From late night suppers to that first morning cuppa, it’s where ideas are nurtured, stories are told and creativity is championed.

It’s how we work with our clients. And while they may come to us initially for help with their words, they tell us they leave with so much more.

Our big magic moment

The idea for our Kitchen Table Sessions came to Becca while Loch-side in Scotland this summer. We knew it was the idea we needed to take action on because it's something we’ve been helping women with for years. Women who have an idea but don't know if it's got the legs to be a business.

This is what interior designer Lindsey Higgins said after we helped her figure out what makes her and her business unique, "It gave me such confidence to find out I had a superpower."

When the idea arrived, we realised it’s what'll help you bring your own big magic to life.

Which is why we're inviting you to join us at our virtual kitchen table in a series of three informal sessions where we'll help you make sense of the ideas and words buzzing around your head and identify the stories that'll serve you, your business and your dream customers.

We’ll help you identify your superpower and what makes you YOU and start to formulate the plan you need to share your idea with the world.

Some of the best conversations happen around the kitchen table.

From late night suppers to that first morning cuppa, it’s where ideas are nurtured, stories are told and creativity is championed.

There’s so much value in talking to someone you can trust, who understands where you're at and knows what you need to do next. Don’t let your beautiful idea slip away in the midst of not knowing where to begin. Find your superpower and bring your idea to life.

The first step can feel scary but we promise it doesn't have to be. All you need is the clarity and confidence to make a strong start.

If you’ve already got an idea, you’re at the early stages of your business or you know you want to start something new, we can help. Discover more about our Kitchen Table Sessions and if you’re interested, why not book a free discovery call to see if it’s right for you.

In the meantime, go read BIG MAGIC and grab hold of those ideas before they slip away because the world needs you and what you’ve got to offer.

Gabrielle Bernstein

I discovered Gabrielle Bernstein last summer, inhaling her book The Universe has got your back while on holiday in France. Since then I've literally read her entire repertoire. I can't get enough of her positivity and make picking an affirmation card the first task of my day.

Marie Forleo

I discovered Marie Forleo at the end of 2019 and devoured her book Everything is Figureoutable in a day. I love her New Jersey no nonsense approach to problem solving and how she's all about the fun. Because we all need more of that.

Mountains

Mountains, I love 'em. I love looking at them, hiking them and the endless possibilities they hold. Our favourite place to explore in the UK is the Lake District, whenever we have a spare weekend or day, we throw the tent in the car and head to the hills.
