The meet cute I'll never forget

Rectangle 1@2x

Remember ‘meet cute’ from The Holiday? An amusing or charming first encounter between two characters that leads to the development of a beautiful relationship. Rewind to 2008 and the meet cute I’d later discover was life changing.

I’d returned to the PR agency where I began my career and discovered someone new, Laura.

Soon after we met, a mutual friend and colleague took us both out for dinner.

She talked about the four years she spent at The University of Iowa (I’d been to university in the U.S. for a year, which seemed totally unadventurous in comparison) and about her love of wild camping and hiking.

It was over pizza that night I discovered I was hooked, captivated by this Mini-driving woman, three years younger than me, who had the most adventurous spirit and zest for life.

It’s funny writing this now because these are all qualities Laura doesn't see in herself. Yet there they were, big, bold and beautiful. I knew I wanted some of that in my life.

If someone had told me back in 2008 we’d not only still be friends 14 years later but we’d be on the wondrous rollercoaster of running our own business, with people, purpose and play firmly at our core, I wouldn’t have been surprised, I’d have been thrilled.

I’m sharing this story with you as we celebrate Laura’s 40th trip around the sun and in celebration of our friendship and the meet cute moments we gratefully get to share with our dream clients.

I’m sharing it too as a reminder for you.

What meet cute moments have you experienced with your dream clients? And if you haven’t had one yet, what do you desire it to look like? How do you want it to feel?

It's time to fall in love

If you want to understand and really appeal to your customers, you have to fall in love with them and they have to fall in love with you (or at least be intrigued enough to want to know more).

You have to get intimate, like you would with a new friend, partner or lover.

⚡️What are their deepest desires?

⚡️What makes them laugh?

⚡️What gives them sleepless nights?

⚡️How do they want to feel?

⚡️What do you see in them that they don’t see in themselves?

And for them to fall in love with you they need to get to KNOW, LIKE and TRUST you.

⚡️Do you share the same values?

⚡️Why are you doing what you’re doing (beyond making a living)?

⚡️What’s your vision and how does that speak to where they’re at?

⚡️What’s your story? Where did you come from and where are you going?

Whether you're just starting out with an idea or your business has evolved and you’re realigning, firm up your foundations and reevaluate your vision, your values and your why.

Do this and you’ll be building from a firm foundation, solid ground, the best place to grow your business so it’s not only strong, it’s a success.

To help you get clear on the foundational elements your business needs you to establish so you can share your messaging with confidence to inspire action ➡️ grab a copy of our Find your Foundations self-study guide and workbook.

Take a few hours to do the work and after that, everything you write and everything you do will feel easier, clearer and more aligned with where you want your business and your life to go.

There are people out there who need to meet (cute) you and discover the magic you have to offer. Don’t hold it back, it’s already there waiting for you to share.

With love,

Becca

Gabrielle Bernstein

I discovered Gabrielle Bernstein last summer, inhaling her book The Universe has got your back while on holiday in France. Since then I've literally read her entire repertoire. I can't get enough of her positivity and make picking an affirmation card the first task of my day.

Marie Forleo

I discovered Marie Forleo at the end of 2019 and devoured her book Everything is Figureoutable in a day. I love her New Jersey no nonsense approach to problem solving and how she's all about the fun. Because we all need more of that.

Mountains

Mountains, I love 'em. I love looking at them, hiking them and the endless possibilities they hold. Our favourite place to explore in the UK is the Lake District, whenever we have a spare weekend or day, we throw the tent in the car and head to the hills.
